René & Angela were a powerful R&B duo known for blending smooth vocals with funk-infused grooves in the early 1980s. Comprised of Angela Winbush and René Moore, the pair met in Los Angeles and released their debut album in 1980. They gained traction with Wall to Wall and Rise, but hit their peak with the 1985 album A Street Called Desire, featuring hits like “I’ll Be Good,” “Your Smile,” and “Save Your Love (For #1)” with Kurtis Blow.
Despite their success, the duo split in 1986 due to personal and creative differences. Winbush went on to a successful solo and production career, especially with The Isley Brothers, while Moore continued to produce music with a lower profile.
Though their time together was short, René & Angela’s music remains influential, sampled by hip-hop artists and revered in R&B circles for its timeless sound.
